Hunted (Ok, its an overused title, so what?)

This is actually a story I wrote for an english exam following the question "You are walking down the road when a stranger approaches and asks; 'Why have you been following me?' Continue the narrative."

I stand in the middle of the square. Scanning slowly, taking in every minute detail. The cobbled street, the small fountain raining tiny droplets into a pool at the bottom where years of coins glint from the superstitious passer by’s, the six or so people spread around the edge of the square. I don’t like it, it’s to enclosed. Maybe I’m just paranoid but better safe than sorry. You never know when…
“Why have you been following me?”
The question takes me off guard. I spin around at mach 5 to face the source of the voice. It’s a young man, in his late twenties, probably. He has golden hair which forms waves in the small breeze that whistles through the square. His blue jeans and gray t-shirt seem to be drenched in sweat. Maybe from running. Possibly after me. My paranoia starts cranking it’s self up again but I don’t let it show.
“Why have you been following me?” he repeats.
I do what has saved me in more than a few instances; I play dumb. “Huh?” I grunt.
The guy looks warily around. “I’ve noticed you following me for the past three blocks!”
He does look familiar but maybe that’s just me. I continue to play innocent. “What do you mean? No I haven’t!”
“Yes you have!”
“Why would I be following you?”
“Maybe some of us have enemies.”
“Maybe some of us aren’t the enemy, whoever they are.”
The guy looks relieved, like a weight has been lifted from his back. “Sorry about that. I’m just a bit jittery today. My life’s kind’ a gotten out of control recently.”
I do the safe thing, I nod. You never know what form lunatics will take.
Suddenly, something snaps in the back of my head and I recognize him. “Hey! You’re that politician guy who was involved in that conspiracy!”
He nods sadly. “I got away with no record but the darker side, the gangs and them, don’t believe me.” He sighs dramatically. “It’s why I was scared of you at first. I think they may have hired some thug to kill me.”
“Woah!” I exclaimed. “Have you told the police?”
He rolls his eyes “Of course!” he said “I’m not stupid. But there’s a limit to how much protection they can offer.” He sighs again. “Anyway, it was nice meeting you.” He turns around and starts to walk away.
When his back is turned I do a quick check of the six, now four, other people in the square. No one is paying attention to me or the guy. I whisper into a hidden microphone on the lapel of my overcoat. “Target acquired.”
I do another quick check around and then slowly draw the silenced pistol from a hidden holster. I check the safety then flick a switch and the laser comes to life. A lazily pulsing red dot appears on the cobbled street. I bring the pistol up so that the dot rests on the back of the guy’s head. I tighten my grip on the pistol, my index finger resting lightly on the trigger. Surprisingly easy.

So yeah, ad a few spelling mistakes and you've got here part of my english exam. Hope you enjoyed it.

The ever evolving human species

Well time for another useless rant about how evolution is way closer to correct than religion. Standard reminder: If you are religious and offended by this stop reading now! Moving on.

A commun argument I have come acrosse during my many debates in support of evolution is if evolution is true why aren't humans evolving? The truth; they are. It's called birth deffects, something doctors are trying to correct. Reinforcing something I said in an earlier post, health care is killing evolution. This, however, is not the point of this post. As I said humans are still evolving, people are just thinking to short term.

In general, humans are short sighted. They think they will see changes in their lifetime. Wake up already! There's a reason why the dinosaurs died and mammals evolved millions and not hundreds of years ago. Evolution takes time. Evolution is where small adaptations or mutations give a particular animal certain advantages over others of it's species or natural competition. These advantages make it more likely to reproduce and pass the advantage off to it's offspring. Then another mutation occurs and so on and so forth. These things happen over hundreds of generations not years. Ok fine, I admit that some animal generations are measured in years but let's bring the topic back to humans.

Have you noticed that more and more kids are growing taller than their parents? Evolution. More and more babies are being born prematurely. Evolution (though not for the better, read medicine is killing evolution). Younger generations are handling technology with more and more ease. Evolution (I think). You get the point. Evolution is a continuing force that did NOT die off when we humans came around. Get used to it. We are not the perfect species. Far from it. Evolution is trying to make us as a species stronger. We are not helping. Evolution is very much alive. End of story.

We're All Going To Hell!!!

The title grabbed your attention didn’t it?

So I’m bringing the blog back to what I originally stated it was for. Please do not take offense but at the very beginning I said I was going to denounce religion so please do not read on if you find this offensive. Continuing with the subject in the title, yes, we are all going to hell. For those of you who have been good Christians/Muslims/Jews etc. this may not seem faire. What have you ever done to insult the divine? Simple, you believed in another religion.

In most religion it is stated by the 10 commandments, or the equivalent there of, that you should believe in no other god. So by believing in Christianity you are therefore breaking that Jewish rule and vice versa, for all other religions as well. So Hades/Satan/the Devil etc. will punish you in the afterlife. Oh no, not your devil, the devils of every other religion worldwide, throughout history. “Welcome to heaven enjoy your twenty seconds here while the devil comes up to get you. What’s that you say? You have led a good life? Oh well. I can’t help you. You broke my friend’s laws. See you later!” (Once again, sorry if I’m offending anybody but I did warn you)

Besides the other evidence, “cough” science, which contributes to my non-belief in any religion, there is the question that if I became religious which religion should I follow. Who is to say that the ancient Greek religion is any less correct than the modern Christians. My argument if I reach the afterlife well be “OK, sorry for not believing in you but hey! I didn’t believe in any of those other guys.” Another fact contributing to this is that god is supposed to be loving and faire, shouldn’t he accept me even if I wasn’t religious in life? I stand by my point that religion has to many holes to be credible by my standards. Nothing is perfect. I believe that evolution is correct because it has fewer holes than creationism. Good day!

The 4th dimension!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, after another long disappearance from the web I am back without anything to really point out. So I’m going to talk about the 4th dimension.

Well we all learned, or should have learned, that there are three dimensions, length, height and depth. Well now I’m going to astound you all by proclaiming that there is a fourth dimension (not studied in school…or is it?)!

Yeah, for all of you who don’t pay attention the world doesn’t freeze whenever you want it too. This is due to a force we all know as time. Voila! You’ve stumbled into the perimeter of wisdom! Time is the fourth dimension. The other three operate on the fact that two objects cannot occupy the same space (unless they fuse and become one object but that’s something else completely). In the fourth dimension (which is our dimension so get over it) is just adding to that. Two items cannot occupy the same space AT THE SAME TIME! Well I do believe we knew that but science is a complicated way of stating and explaining what’s in front of us already, considering that science is always there we’re just discovering how it works. The fourth dimension works by stating that if a car is coming down the road and you are in the middle of the road you both cannot occupy that space (the car generally wins that confrontation). But if you occupied that space a few seconds ago and now you don’t then there is no confrontation, it simply adds another factor to the equation [sort of like adding letters to addition and subtraction (just when you thought you had figured math out)]. The world we live in is so complex yet so simple in prospect.

The thing we need to realize is that science is generally right, it’s the human factor in the equation that generally messes things up. Science functions on principles that can be proven by repetitive testing, over and over and over and over and over and over… Anyway. Humans, however, are not consistent and, let’s face it, tend to make errors. If a person blames science or some other factor for something which failed completely then it’s generally a cover up for their own error. People don’t like being wrong, but they are…all the time.

Humans are jerks

Well. As I think we've established throughout my various "anti human" posts I believe I've established that I think that, overall, humans are jerks. In Canada people wanted rememberance day moved so they could have a long weekend. Kind of defeating the purpose. Throughout history, the cases human stupidity and overall disrespect towards other humans and nature are without count. Why did world war I start? Because some group of people were being a jerk to another. Same thing happened with world war II and the war of the roses and the american civil war and ... need I go on? My point being that people don't seem to get it. We are not the center of the universe. Get over yourselves. There's more to life than TV, money and "I control everything". What you need to do is get outside and live it. Why do I always end with some form of analogy about humans are bad and that we should respect nature or something like that?

Well its almost christmas ... again. And now i'm here to denounce the whole intent and purpose. Christmas is a christian holiday, celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus. News Flash! Jesus was not born on the 25th of december! In reality the celebration on the 25th of december is actualy a pagan holiday celebrating the fact that "spring is coming". Yes! Christianity didn't get there first. The 22nd of december is the shortest day of the year. The pagans (which, by the way, were those guys with druids and stuff who worshiped the gods Odin and Thor and such) waited three days after the shortest day of the year, as the days slowly got longer, to confirm that the gods weren't angry and that spring was coming, then they had a huge festival on the 25th. Offly convinient that when christianity came around, one of the first religions it tried to convert was paganism. One of the comun theories is that the christians put the christmas celebration on the 25th to tick off the pagans and to make those who had converted more comfortable in their new beliefs. So once again, a display of how humans, however "well intentioned" (which the christians weren't! How many times has it been the "nice" person who tried to destroy another religion? Ok, i'm not a nice person, fine, i'm just stating the facts) are overall jerks. Try to live by a good standard and stick to it. Don't compromise. You'll do fine. Wow! Yet another analogy! I've realy got to stop doing that!

Medicine is killing evolution

The theory of evolution works around the principle of natural selection, the death of weaker species and the survival of stronger ones. Basically if you had two types of rabbit, one has very long hair and the other has short hair. They live in a cold climate where long hair is a good thing so that the animal stays warm. If both species of rabbit start with the same number of members then in a few generations the long haired rabbits will outnumber the shorthaired ones thanks to their long haired trait. They were the stronger species for that climate, fewer of their members died and more were able to reproduce so the longhaired ones will eventually dominate so much that the shorthaired rabbits will go extinct. The stronger species lives and that is natures way of having the evolutionary chain go up instead of down.

Humans defy all of this. How? Modern medicine. For the theory of evolution to work weaker links in the species have to die out. In humans, the weaker ones aren’t dying out because we are healing them with our modern medicine. The weaker links survive and the species does not get stronger, in fact, this has been going on for a while so that our species is going backwards indirectly, the weaker links survive to pass on their weaknesses to the next generation so as a whole we are impacting our gene pool and our species for the worst.

I’m not saying that I’m against saving peoples lives with medicine. What I am saying is that one of the reasons for overpopulation and “humans destroying everything around them to expand” is because our species isn’t dying naturally. Everything in nature has a balance. Grass grows, moose eat grass, wolves eat moose. When there is less grass there are fewer dear and there are fewer wolves giving the grass a chance to grow up again. When the dear are in abundance so are the wolves who hunt them. When the wolves nock the species numbers down again the wolves go down as well, thus giving the dear a chance to start again. You can do this example for just about any food chain on earth, there is a balance. Humans defy that balance. By not dying when we would from diseases or injuries, our species does not lose members and stay the same size over time, it grows. And continues to grow even now.

We are defying natures way of making things equal and thus defying evolution itself. Why should I care? Because! Because! Because! Because! Because! Because I said so! Also, because the species is getting weaker and more reliant on medication as we go on. We are using to many medications. You want to know where are of these super resistant super germs come from? Us! Us when we are using medication so often that it gives them a chance to adapt. Other species are advancing slowly. We just hit the reverse button and wonder why we’re going backwards.

Missing links

Ok. I've been straying from the original purpose of my blog for the past little while. So now back to science.

Missing links are yet another, possibly one of the best, proofs of the theory of evolution. Have you ever herd of any animals or fossilized discoveries that don't make any sense. Chances are that if you did you didn't listen to the whole story because generaly those animals that have little things like stubby useless arms or a disapearing tail are generaly understood to be missing links. One of the generations between one species evolving into another.

Examples! Examples! Their always necessary if you're going to prove a point in just about anything. In the age of the dinosaurs (triassic, jurassic, cretaceous periods) there was a group of animals that scientists have named "Mammel like Reptiles". These little guys were simply reptiles with mammel like characteristics examples being warm blooded amoung other things. This was before and during the evolution of real mammels so these are the unknown "animal in between"! These mammel like reptiles are actualy closely linked to the genetic history of all mammels. Yes. You evolved from an ape which evolved from some form of four legged mammel which in it's turn evolved from another smaller mammel which evolved from a mammel like reptile which evolved from an actual reptile which in its own turn evolved from, believe it or not, an amphibien and... need I go on?

My point being, go back far enough and the genetic tree shrinks and shrinks and everything it is closer and closer related. Archaeopteryx is a brilliant example that most of you none nerds can probably comprehend. It is a commun assumption that birds evolved from dinosaurs (i'm not saying i'm against this assumption i'm saying it's just an assumption) more specificly, the raptor family. This is one of the reasons why birds of pray are called "raptors". Anyway, archaeopteryx is a reptile, clearly distinguished as one, HOWEVER, it has feathers. Scientists believe that the arms, not wings, of archaeopteryx were not strong enough to fly but instead strong enough to glide from tree to tree like a reptilian flying squirel. This is almost exactly at the halfway point between dinosaur/raptor and bird. If I need further proof please tell me.

Face it. We evolved from those poo flinging monkeys you see in jungle films. Well not actualy. We evolved from a specific string of apes called the Homo family. So content yourself with the knoledge that we weren't as stupid as those howler monkeys that fling poo at tourists. Remember, APES not monkeys!
